The techniques you’ll learn can be used to teach a foreign language as well. We have had students from their late teens all the way into their 80s, with a wide variety of backgrounds and motivations. Our graduates are helping out here at home teaching immigrants and refugees as well as working all over the world. It feels good to be able to submit a review for a “product” I was completely satisfied with. Since completing TESL at TFLI, I have gone on to research and secure various opportunities – both ESL and non-ESL teaching experiences that were enhanced by my TESL training. TESL at TFLI provided me with knowledge and skills that served me in the following settings:-Teaching ESL classes in paid and volunteer opportunities in Nashville
-Teaching 5th grade Language Arts as a long-term substitute for most of the year in a Nashville charter school
-Teaching junior high Literature and English in a bilingual school in Central America
-Teaching private ESL classes in Central AmericaThe TESL course improved my ability to approach different aspects of teaching such as planning quality lessons from scratch, creating learning experiences that engage students every day, understanding realities of various methods of language instruction, and using a teaching method that is communicative – which means students learn to actually communicate in the language (instead of being unable to communicate after years of study, like the learning experience I had personally with studying Spanish in high school and college). In addition, the program helped prepare me for realities of teaching abroad, including careful consideration of work contracts, issues of safety in-country, and the cycle of cultural adjustment.*For the course review you are reading, I gave a rating of “Fair” for TESL in the Job Placement category. TFLI will definitely help you with advice and information about a variety of teaching opportunities you may apply for, but “Job Placement” is a different thing than what they provide (and to my knowledge, they don’t advertise job placement). This felt unfortunate during the time that I had difficulty finding the right opportunity to teach abroad in Central America, but I eventually found exactly what I needed on my own.If you would like to become a better teacher in general, consider TESL at TFLI. And if you would like to set yourself apart as an ESL teacher, sign up for TESL at TFLI right away.

Taking this course was one of the best decisions I made. At the beginning I was terrified about the practicum teaching that we would have to do. When the time came for teaching I couldn’t believe how much confidence and knowledge I’d gained. I’ve seen and heard about the impact TFLI and their TESL program have around the world. It’s pretty awesome. I appreciate the teachers and trainers for everything they have done and are doing!

I can’t say enough about the TESL program at TFLI- this program is amazing!
The instructors are kind and helpful, and the content is incredibly relevant. Although the course was very intense, I can say without a doubt that it prepared me for my job! I now help run an adult ESL education program at a local non profit (a job listing passed on to me directly by TFLI), and I use my TESL education everyday. Post certification I am not only more employable but also more prepared (as a teacher) to tackle the challenges I face in the ESL classroom. I looked at several other programs before I settled on TFLI and I am confident that I made the best possible choice. If you have the opportunity to take the TESL course at TFLI I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed!

I attended the summer course in 2013. It was be far the best course I have ever taken. The course teaches the communicative style of teaching English which is really what people want in a foreign language class. Of course, it was intense and required a lot of homework and lesson plan preparation, but the result was worth it! Our main teacher, Aaron, was EXCELLENT!!!!! Since the class, I have successfully taught English to Burmese, Spanish and Israeli students, both in America and in Israel. In fact, when I needed help with illiterate students after the training class was over, the staff bent over backwards to give me the help I needed. In addition, I have used the skills learned in the course to teach a beginning Hebrew class! The tools are the same for teaching any foreign language.I would highly recommend TFLI! It really changed my life!

TESL @ TFLI transformed me into an effective, well-rounded educator (not only an English teacher). TFLI’s instructors are adamant about molding its students into experienced teachers while also considering the pupils’ talents and personal goals. Lessons are captivating and informative. Faculty is knowledgeable and helpful. The experience that TESL @ TFLI provides is nearly impossible to replicate or substitute in all of Tennessee. It is obvious that the education I received is from a distinguished institution composed of insightful linguists.
